Book Club Friday~!

The Keeping by Nicky Charles

Book review from smashwords.com
Ryne Taylor was a sexy bad-ass Alpha set on establishing a new pack. Melody Greene was a journalism student researching his work as a photographer—or so she said. But could Mel really be trusted or had she stumbled upon his secret? And if she knew, could Ryne save himself and the pack he’d left behind without enacting a deadly ancient law known as The Keeping? Sequel to The Mating.

My review!

I really enjoyed this book. I read The Mating last week and thought it was very captivating! It kept my attention and had lots of details, which I like. Although I enjoyed The Mating much more, The Keeping got really dramatic towards the end. A new character was introduced, Casandra, and the next book focuses on her. I may start reading the last book in the sequel (The Finding) today!

B-B-Book Club Friday!

The Mating by Nicky Charles

I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book. The best part? It's free! Go to Smashwords to read it online for free.

Review:

Elise is part of a pack of werewolves whose alpha is her father. He decides in order to keep the alliance with another pack, Elise will be "mated" to Kane, the other pack's new alpha. He is tall, dark, and of course handsome. He takes care of Elise and makes sure she is welcomed into his pack. This pack, however, has a lot of recent drama and some mysterious happenings. I loved how the story progressed, even though the way Kane and Elise were introduced was a bit akward in the beginning. This story kept my attention like no other, and there is two more books in this series which I will definately read next!

It took awhile to find good werewolf books (I found plenty of vamp books, but had trouble finding a good werewolf series.) Reader beware: There are some very adult scenes in this series, but it doesn't overpower the story thankfully! :)

BOOK CLUB FRIDAY! Blood & Chocolate

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause

This is gonna be really fast. I didn't feel like racking my brain to convince you to read this book, so I won't. I will just tell you quickly what it's about and how I felt reading it!

Vivian is a teenage girl who is part of a pack spiraling out of control. Her father, the former pack leader, is killed in a fire and has not been replaced. She tries her best to stay out of the inner pack politics because she disagrees with their idea of fun (killing!) The males in the pack treat her like a "piece of meat", but she can come off that way at times. She decides to start making human friends, if she can just not eat them! Although her "relationship" with human boy Aiden is underdeveloped and unsatisfying, everything else in the story kept me wanting more! Vivian is snarky and sarcastic, which made me giggle a bit. My attention was caught and kept immediately because of the non-stop action in the story. Even though I didn't care much for Aiden, I did enjoy the outcome of this story. It's not like every other werewolf book, in a good way. I was so sad when I finished reading this, because there is not a sequel. I searched the internet high and low, and no reports of it becomming a series. Bummer! But, this is a great book nonetheless and I loved it so much.

4th of July post!

I haven't blogged in awhile (I'm terrible at this) and it's not like anyone reads this anyway, haha. I had a long weekend over the 4th and had ample time to spend with mine and Jd's family. We went to Jd's brother's house to cook out and shoot off fireworks. We had a great time and my family showed up to watch the fireworks, which made it that much funner! Then Jd, his daughter Ash, and I went to my parent's house on Monday, the 4th. Again, cookout and fireworks! I will post pix eventually. Unless I just decide to delete my blog instead.

Gavin's Pointe Dam, Yankton

I haven't actually wrote anything for awhile. It's time for a funny story I suppose. I went with Jd's family to see the water they're letting out of the dam on Sunday (Father's Day). As I bravely inched closer to the fence, a huge gust of water came roaring my way! Jd's brother conveniently side-stepped out of the way (he was standing in front of me) and I got plummeted with a wave! My entire lower half was soaked, and I had on jeans. They had to have weighed at least 20 pounds! Why do I always end up soggy when I leave the house? I will post a picture later tonight.

SO WHAT! Wednesday

Haylee enlightened my day with her "SO What Wednesday" blog post! Here are some things I want to say SO WHAT! to this week:

So What if:
  • I don't check to see if my tires are aired up.
  • I don't like Chinese food or country music.
  • I complain about not being able to lose weight and don't work out.
  • I blow my extra money on shopping instead of paying off credit card bills :)
That's all for now...check back next Wednesday!

When times are hard....

Shop at the Goodwill.

I was babysitting my niece on Saturday and I needed some clothes for work desperately. None of my pants fit anymore, because my diet consists of mostly Mexican Food, soooo yummy! I asked my dad to drop us off at the Goodwill on Gordon Drive (across from Menard's) and it took me no more than 20 minutes to have a shopping cart full. I only made it through the Small section and about a quarter of the Mediums before Dad showed up and I had to "try on, or leave" lol. I ended up with thirteen shirts and one pair of work pants. The total came to $43.00! But seriously, that's worth it for a quick wardrobe update.

Shoppers: Watch out for stains that are hard to see...I found two on my shirts so far.

My life during the past week

JD and Sarah- Christmas 2010
Lots has happened in the past week! I will start where I left off with our Memorial Day weekend camping adventure. We camped for three fun filled nights at Ponca State Park in Ponca, Nebraska. It is a beautiful  place to hike, camp, ride horses, bike, or picnic. I haven't been there since my high school days, and the new visitor center is a fantastic addition! The first night went great, but the second night took a turn for the worse. I woke up in the night SOAKED on my whole right side. The air mattress had lost all of its air and I slept in a puddle of water all night! My boyfriend JD insisted that I peed my pants until I started to believe him, then finally stopped teasing me....jerk. We went hiking a couple of times, which I enjoyed.

I had my 8 month old niece stay the night with me and JD on Monday night, when we got back from camping. She's the cutest little baby. Every time I see her she always has a big smile for me, I like that :) She has been teething, which made her a little bit crabby, but as long as you make faces and dance around all day, she won't cry! And here is her most recent accomplishment... she started crawling yesterday!! I will post pics as soon as I get a chance.

Last, but not least, I will tell you about current events I have been keeping up with.
  • First: The trial of Casey Anthony
This is such an intriguing story for me because a young girl, about my age, is being accused of murdering her own daughter. She was a very pretty woman & seemed to have a great family. Not like someone who could kill another person...especially her two year old little girl. I have always been intrigued by the criminal mind, and the story behind this case is unbelievable. To read about it or watch clips of her friends and family testifying in court, go to www.cnn.com/hln and click on Nancy Grace on top. Her blog contains the most current updates on the trial, as well as other stories she is following. http://nancygrace.blogs.cnn.com/
  • Second: Flooding in the Midwest
We are gonna get wet! It's already starting; there's huge trucks hauling sand 24/7, Black Hawk choppers placing 1,000 lb. sandbags, the National Guard is coming out of the walls, and interstate exits are being barricaded due to high water levels. At 6:00 a.m. this morning, the Missouri River officially reached the flood level. We are fortunate enough that our home is not in danger, but we will have to move our horses to higher ground, as they are being kept close to the river. To see pictures and read stories on this crazy natural disaster go to http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/. That's all I have for now, stay tuned for updates!!

Just call me Mrs. Roboto.

Haylee & Sarah

SO, this is my very first time blogging and I can't wait to see what happens. My friend, Haylee is... Sioux City Pretty, introduced me to Blogger and here I am trying it out. I'm not blogging because I'm bored, I swear. But, since I'm not quite sure what to do with this I'm going to start out by telling you what my Memorial Day weekend will be like.

I'm going camping!! Yes, it's gonna rain and yes, I'm gonna hate it. My boyfriend insists on camping when it's supposed to hurricane outside, so I am tagging along to be a good girlfriend. I love camping, hiking, boating, etc. etc. etc. but I hate mud and wind.

Be safe on Memorial Day weekend! No drinking and driving, it will cost you a pretty penny!
